First you need to close the app on the Program tray by right-clicking the Icon and selecting Exit.Īs the app is a Service you need to turn off the service if it did not switch off automatically. This seems easy but there are some pitfalls.

#AUTODESK DESKTOP APP HOW TO#
There are documents on the Autodesk Knowledge network on how to fix some of these particular issues but for this example we’ll reinstall the App. There is nothing shown inside the dialogue box. I have seen instances where Desktop App dialogue box is empty upon start-up.
#AUTODESK DESKTOP APP SOFTWARE#
Now with any software something might go wrong, and the Desktop App needs to be reinstalled. The Autodesk Desktop App gets installed by default with any of the newer Autodesk software.

#AUTODESK DESKTOP APP LICENSE#
The Desktop App will only work effectively if the user has been assigned a license by the Contract Manager in the Autodesk Account found at: and then the user logs into the Desktop App. The main task of the Desktop App is to keep the User informed about updates and new versions of their software. At that stage it was called differently but its essentials did the same thing.
#AUTODESK DESKTOP APP INSTALL#
So this is the Autodesk desktop app and it's available when you install AutoCAD 2017. I think it's a wonderful idea and I think it's one of the best things that Autodesk have created in some time. But, as soon as they are available, they'll appear in this list here and I can just install them at my leisure. So you can go straight to the desktop app and look at, say AutoCAD, and, are there any updates available? No, not at this time. You don't have to worry about the little pop-ups coming up when you're in the product and actually using it. And I think this is a great idea by Autodesk because everything's in the one place. So you can learn about your products all from the one place, the Autodesk desktop app. But you'll notice for each product as well we've got Forums, the Ideastation for Revit, the Autodesk Knowledge Network, the Autodesk Blogs. Especially when you're doing it over wi-fi, for example rather than a wired connection. So these are available and you've got Revit extensions where the install failed again. Things like Autodesk A360 Collaboration v2 for Revit 2016. And you can see there, a number of Revit updates as well. I obviously cancelled the download at some point, maybe it was taking too long.
#AUTODESK DESKTOP APP UPDATE#
Same goes for ReCap, there's an update available. At least it's told me that it's failed and I need to, obviously, install it again. I've obviously tried to install that sometime and it's failed, no problem. If I go here, AutoCAD Electrical, I've actually got a Service Pack 1 that I need to install and it was made available two months ago. So, over here on the left, I've got AutoCAD updates and it shows me that I've also got learning videos and learning articles but there are no updates available. And if you're logged into your Autodesk ID like I am, you can go to your Account Details and your Settings and so on.

You can also go there, you've got the usual Help, Contact Us, and About. So, they might like your feedback so just send it when you need to. Now, you see at the top of the screen, obviously you've got the Autodesk icon logo there and, if you hover here, it tells you what updates you've got, like so. So I can click on the scroll bar and it tells me about all the different updates and things that I've got for the Autodesk software applications installed on my laptop. So you can see you've got a scroll bar here. So, I'm just going to go down and click on it. It doesn't matter which, it's just sitting there in the taskbar ready to be used. You just click on it and open it from the taskbar in AutoCAD or in Windows. Now, I've already got it open down on my taskbar. And the Autodesk desktop app basically tells you what updates, hotfixes, patches, and service packs are needed for your particular products that you've got installed. You'll find a little Autodesk icon in there. Now what happens is, this installs silently in the background when you install AutoCAD 2017 and what it does is it sits in your Windows taskbar at the bottom right corner where things like your clock are and it tells you whether you've got wi-fi. Another great new feature that installs with AutoCAD 2017 when you're installing it from scratch is the Autodesk desktop app.
